Fans of Lululemon’s activewear, you’re in luck: Now you can put Lulu on your body, hair, and face too. The athletic brand recently launched their first foray into beauty with a new line, Selfcare, that includes a dry shampoo, lip balm, moisturizer, and a deodorant.
Unlike your average beauty line, this one is formulated with sweaty faces and bodies in mind, made with shine-reducing ingredients like tapioca starch to absorb excess oil and moisturizing ones, like shea butter and coconut oil. Each of the products are designed to be unisex in both scent and packaging as well—no overly flowery or deeply woodsy notes here (plus most of the products are priced at under $20). Intrigued by Lululemon’s new product line, I decided to put everything to the test to find out how effective they really are, especially during those awkward, in-between moments when a full shower isn’t really an option.
Just a few spritzes of deodorant kept me fresh for hours.
Since I’m the type of person who likes to feel (and smell!) as fresh as possible at all times, my expectations were pretty high for the deodorant. I’ve recently become a fan of spray deodorant, so the formulation of Lululemon’s was right up my alley. I tested both scents of the brand’s Anti-Stink Deodorant—Black Pepper Sandalwood and Aloe—during different workouts. Neither deodorant was overly fragrant once I applied them, and they had a dry, cooling sensation upon contact (which is great for people with overactive underarms like mine).
Additionally, the formula is totally aluminum-free, and never made me feel like I was caking my pits with product to stay fresh while breaking a sweat. It’s made with ingredients like zinc ricinoleate instead, a natural salt that helps absorb odor, as well as shea butter and coconut oil to keep underarms moisturized. All I needed were a couple of spritzes on each side, and I was ready to take my workout to the max—without fear of musty pits. While I admittedly was a bit skeptical at first of how fresh the products would keep me (they literally felt like spraying a lightweight dry shampoo!) by the end of my workouts, I could wave my arms with the utmost confidence that I wouldn’t offend my fellow gym-goers with my stench. Bonus: It goes on clear, so I never had to worry about deodorant stains getting all over my clothes.

The moisturizer’s spill-proof top was perfect for carrying in my gym bag.
After washing my face, I applied the brand’s Sweat Reset face moisturizer, which has a gel-based formula that felt super lightweight on my combination skin. Before I even pumped the product out, I was impressed by its lock top, which meant I never had to worry about it spilling in my bag when I threw it in to use after showering at the gym. Like many products in the line, I’d happily use this moisturizer every day—it’s light enough to not feel oily or like a mask on my skin, but hydrates like I dipped my face in the creamiest moisturizer ever.

My lips stay dry, so the hydrating lip balm always came in handy.
One of my favorite aspects of Lululemon’s Basic Balm aside from its nonsticky feel is its soft-touch applicator, which is designed to feel like you’re applying the balm with your fingertip (but not in a creepy way). I also loved the way the balm added instant moisture to my lips without looking overly shiny or smelling too shiny.
Once I put on a swipe or two of product, I didn’t have to reapply for hours at a time—but I did anyway because I wanted to, not because I had to. The balm is made with hydrating ingredients like shea butter, jojoba oil, and beeswax, which accounts for how awesome and soft my lips felt after I applied it. Now even when I’m not working out, I keep it at the ready anytime my lips feel even slightly dehydrated. Goodbye, peeling lips!

After back-to-back days of working out, the dry shampoo gave my oily scalp a second wind.
I’m not a hardcore dry-shampoo user, but for moments when I wear my natural hair in a protective style—braids, twists, and the like—it can really come in handy, especially after a tough workout when my scalp needs some TLC. The best part about this dry shampoo? It didn’t leave any awkward residue behind in my hair, and helped it smell (and feel) clean without shampooing.

After testing the entire product line, I was pleasantly surprised by how effective they were both pre- and post-workout. No matter how sweaty I got (even after a hot yoga class) I still felt clean—although I was still ready for a shower as soon as humanly possible afterward.
