New Kindle Models Announced for 2024—Shop Them Now
If you didn’t snag a discounted Amazon Kindle last Prime Day in the hopes that an updated model would come out this year, you’re in luck: Amazon just announced a whole new Kindle line for 2024, including the very first version with a color display. Thinking about leveling up your reading setup or looking for the perfect gift for the bookworm in your life? This is news you can use.
Two of the four new devices are on sale now: the standard Kindle, which is the lightest it’s ever been (clocking in under six ounces), and the Kindle Paperwhite, which has faster page turns, a high-contrast screen, and a 12-week battery life. We were already big fans of the Paperwhite—our senior commerce editor loves it for distraction-free reading—so these upgrades should take it from good to great.
The Kindle Colorsoft will start shipping on October 30, but you can preorder it now. It has many of the same features you’ll find in older Kindle models, including waterproofing, adjustable brightness, and a glare-free screen, but it adds a full-color display and multiple shades of highlighters to choose from. It’s a great choice for graphic novel fans, readers who love to revisit their favorite passages, and anyone who doesn’t necessarily judge books by their covers but likes to look at them all the same.
Amazon won’t release the new Kindle Scribe until December 4, but, like the Colorsoft, it’s already available for preorder. If you like to mark up your books with margin notes or pause mid-chapter to brainstorm and journal, this is the Kindle for you. It’s essentially an e-reader and a notebook in one sleek device—and the latest version has an improved pen and display screen.
No matter which new Kindle suits you, we’d consider one a great investment if you’re a voracious reader (or you’re interested in reading more). These streamlined devices make it easy and convenient to stay on top of your to read list, even if you’re traveling, commuting, at the beach, or in the bath. And anything that gets us off our phones (and into our imaginations) is a worthy treat.
