I’ve Finally Found the Best Eyebrow Pencil for Oily Skin: Kimiko Review 2020

Although choosing a favorite type of makeup product feels a bit like picking a favorite child, wielding a great eyebrow pencil has to be among my top three. Since I like to consider myself an unofficial brow wizard, I thought I’d pretty much tried everything, until I got my hands on the Kimiko Super Fine Eyebrow Pencil Automatique. I first heard about the pencil from celebrity makeup artist Molly R. Stern, who recommended it as a holy-grail favorite to use on her clients. And after trying it out for myself, I’ve become a believer, too.
Unlike other brow products in my collection, this one has a low-oil formula that’s perfect for my sometimes iridescently oily T-zone. Since its formula is on the drier side, I never have to press too hard, or overdraw the lines on my skin to see great color payoff. Often with other pencil formulas, I have to reapply product through my brows again and again to achieve my desired look, which usually results in harsher, more obvious lines. With this pencil, however, I can create natural, hairlike strokes with the lightest flick of the wrist.
Its smooth formula makes filling in the sparse areas of my eyebrows a breeze, and also comes in three shades, so I can use multiple hues for different effects. My go-to, every day shade is Coffee, a universal brown hue that seamlessly blends in with my natural hair color, and also works well for darker blondes. I typically brush my brows into position with the spoolie end, then go in with the pen on any patchy or overplucked areas. For a bolder look, I also like to outline my overall shape with the Coffee shade first, then accent each brow with strokes of the grey-black shade, Black Tea—for extra depth.
The best part? The pencil’s twist-up design is extra portable for touchups, though I never have to reapply since the pencil’s so dry and pigmented that it goes on without slipping or fading. Now that this pencil and my eyebrows have found each other, I have a feeling that it will be very difficult to separate them—at least until it’s time to double cleanse.
