One thing I’ll never grow tired of is the smell of the beach in the summer. There’s something about getting a whiff of salty beach water on a sunny day that helps me de-stress. While I’d expected to inhale my fair share of sea-tinged air this season, I never thought one of the first places I’d do that in would be the home fragrance aisle at my local Target, where I discovered Opalhouse Driftwood and Sea Salt Room Spray.
I typically like to keep a trove of pleasant scents around the house, mixing candles, incense, and/or room spray to maintain relaxation and overall good vibes, so I’m pretty discerning when it comes to my scent collection. This one, however, immediately caught my eye before I even pressed down on its gold-accented top. It seems a lot more elevated than most, despite it being under $10, because of its clean design (I’m a sucker for cute labels) and sturdy glass packaging that holds a little weight. At first, I was excited at the prospect of finding a new beach-scented room spray to enhance my California coastal-inspired home esthetic, but didn’t want to get my hopes up just in case it came across as more “sweet and syrupy” than “great outdoors.” After debating in the store and then ultimately deciding to take the bottle home with me, I’m happy to report that unlike other room sprays I’ve used in the past, this one didn’t disappoint.
The Opalhouse Driftwood and Sea Salt Room Spray smells exactly as its bottle describes, combining subtle notes of blue sage and sea salt into the perfect iteration of an actual sea breeze. I only really need about two to three spritzes to blanket an entire room, but I like to spray a couple more because I love the smell so much. Just like my favorite foundations, this spray is buildable, which makes it easy to customize the scent to my liking. It does a great job as an odor neutralizer in the bathroom, too. Just like the smell of a coastal gust of wind, this spray helps to add a calmness to my surroundings once I finish using it. Sometimes, if I close my eyes, I can almost picture what it’s like to stand at the shore line. While I still plan to make it to the beach this season (socially distanced, of course), I’ll still stock up on a couple bottles of my new favorite room spray to keep around the house, for moments when lying out in the sand isn’t possible. This multi-purpose fragrance captures the essence of summer seaside in a bottle.
